A matryoshka doll or a Russian nested doll, also called a stacking doll, is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. "Matryoshka" () is a derivative of the Russian female first name "Matryona", which is traditionally associated with a fat, robust Russian woman.

A set of matryoshkas consists of a wooden figure which can be pulled apart to reveal another figure of the same sort inside. It has, in turn, another figure inside, and so on. The number of nested figures is usually five or more. The shape is mostly cylindrical, rounded at the top for the head and tapered towards the bottom, but little else; the dolls have no hands (except those that are painted).  "Great for the price I paid!" 2009-01-11

I bought it for my mother who has Alzheimers because she had had one as a child and it keeps her busy for a long time with guidance. It is not of very high guality, but it look very pretty and the price was right!

 "Not actually a toy" 2009-01-03
By T. Stevens (Madison, WI USA)
These dolls are not actually for children. They don't fit together very well, but, most importantly, they are not sealed at all. They have been painted and have had glitter applied, but the paint can scratch off with a fingernail. Who knows what type of paint this is, but I wouldn't want my child playing with it. All in all, pretty misleading and disappointing.

Look elsewhere.

"This doll is made in China" 2008-11-26
By Roman, Golden Cockerel (Russia)
Guys, the doll pictured here is made in China. I'm 15 years in nesting doll business manufacturing them in Russia and I can tell the difference between Russian and Chinese dolls. No problem in the fact that it is made in China. I just want the seller to let customers know the nesting doll is made in China.

 "Nesting Dolls" 2008-08-02
By K. Hancock
Arrived in good condition and in less time than I was told it would take to receive it. The only issue was that some of the dolls didn't stay together as well as the others, but my daughter still loved it and it kept her occupied on the plane.
